Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus that had not been previously identified in humans. The virus causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever and in more severe cases, pneumonia. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently and avoiding touching your face.
The new Coronavirus spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose. However, COVID 19 can also be present on surfaces outside of a host body by means of man made items and objects. This includes cars.
There are probably lots of ways to come in contact with COVID 19 just going about your daily routine. When you go out shopping there are a lot of things that we have to touch.. and washing your hands may not pop into your head every time you touch something.
The CDC is still conducting test and trying to learn as much as possible about COVID 19, and ways to prevent the spread of the virus and has recommended hand washing and disinfecting your environment as much and as often as you can.
During this time in America and around the world we must all be very careful. Simple little daily chores, running errands and shopping have become a bit dicey, to say the least.
For the first time, in a decade of selling new cars and used cars, I took a few moments to imagine the germs that are lying dormant at the local Car Dealership.
Think about it. There are salesman who just love to meet and greet you with a firm hand shake. It's just an act of respect and common courtesy. However, now, it is a lot more than that. A simple hand shake from a car salesman or anyone for that matter can be the end all of hand shakes.
Furthermore, what about the cars, or inventory? Specifically, the door handles. One thing that I noticed about the average car shopper is that when they see a car of interest, they almost always grab the door handle. This could be just as dangerous as a hand shake.
Cars can literally be a smorgasbord of germs, inside and out. The steering wheel, the stereo nobs, the ac controls, and the gear shift knob; have all been touched and handled by God know's who.
Due to the ease of transmission and contraction of the CORONAVIRUS or COVID 19, Car Shoppers need to be extra careful.
Across the nation, coast to coast, many different types of businesses are affected by the Pandemic. Car Dealerships are also being affected with good cause.
We want you to be on guard. When or if you visit your neighborhood Car Dealership, please keep in mind that the CORONAVIRUS can live outside of the human body on a multitude of surfaces, inside and outside of a car.
We suggest bringing a small container of hand sanitizer or some type of germ killing wipes to disinfect the door handles, steering wheel and other parts of the car that are commonly touched by everyone.
Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.
Clean and disinfect correctly. Always follow label directions on cleaning products and disinfectants. Wash surfaces with a general household cleaner to remove germs. Rinse with water, and follow with an EPA-registered disinfectant to kill germs.
To help stop the spread of germs: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in a waste basket. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
Good personal hygiene is imperative to a healthy lifestyle. Sharing of personal items can transfer germs and bacteria. It can be harsh on the body and therefore, it is necessary for you to be careful on personal hygiene matters.
